I would love to get your feed back on this!

When you open up a new website what strikes you the most?

Is it the design of the website?

Or is it the content on the site?

Or is it the colour of the website?

I know for a start that colour has a big affect on me, but when it comes to websites the content is THE ABSOLUTE MOST IMPORTANT THING!

When I open up a site I might think “that looks great”  or “that site is attractive” but let’s face it I am in the web marketing business.

So I would love to know what you think about how important website design and colour is.

I have been reading material that says that the design is MOST DEFINITELY NOT the most important thing, and really does not count for much at all.

Personally I am of the opinion that as long as a site is attractive and easy on the eye the most important thing is the content.
But then hey, I am one of those people who ‘cuts to the chase’ doesn’t do well dealing with the waffle.

The Art of Choosing a Great Domain Name

Choosing a Domain Name can be difficult at times because you may find that your first choice is already taken but often it can only mean a matter of changing a word or inserting a word and you can get close to what you want.

3. if you are only going to be selling one type of product or service you could use that in the name, but if you do and want to diversify down the track you could be forced to change your name so it is best not to make it too niche specific
4. take care if you are considering using incorrect spellings, like daze for days, because when people are typing into the web browser it may make it harder to remember the name correctly, sometimes this works for you, sometimes it doesn’t
5. the name should give some idea of what you do, for example if you do lawn mowing and gardening, you could use Green Thumbs in preference to say, Think Green
6. make sure it easy to say as well as remember, it needs to roll off people tongues without any problem whatsoever

You can see how there is quite a bit to think about when  naming your business.  I have seen a badly chosen name really hinder the progress of a business.  If this does happen to you and you get people say, ‘what was that again?’ or ‘could you repeat that?’ consider renaming and doing a big fan fare promotion with the new name.

Business people often do not realise that when asked in a questionaire for their business URL that it must include the http:// part of the web address.

In filling out forms or putting their web address in emails, etc business people just do not realise that when they leave the http:// out of the web address it is not picked up by the search engines.

When advertising most people do not use it because visitors will be typing that into their browser, but say for example you send out an email and want your recipients to visit your site, if you only type YOURWebAdvertisingService.com and NOT http://YOURWebadvertisingService.com your recipients will not be able to click straight through to your site.

The other point to remember is that browsers now allow you to type names into the browser bar in either small type or capitals.  A lot of people worry about that because you could not do that many years ago, but today that is not an issue.

I hope this has been some clarification for and if you are aware of having any products that you email out on a reguarl basis don’t forget to check and see if the http:// is in there if you are wanting people to visit your site from the mail out.  It all makes it so much easier for your clients to have direct click through.
